In 2005, we saw some of the biggest energy price spikes since the 1980’s, caused in part by the summer’s dual disasters of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The 2006-2007 heating season brought us one of the warmest January’s on record providing false hope that relief might come soon. Unfortunately, oil prices have surged again. The U.S Energy Department expects prices to remain high through the coming winter season with prices threatening $100.00 per barrel (BBL Mark). This is due to steady growth in world demand, the continued threat of political instability in major oil-producing countries, and growing influence of financial institutions that are speculating in the oil market. WE ALL WANT RELIEF AND LOWER PRICES TOO! Nothing would make us happier than to see oil prices drop down to the levels of just a few years ago.
